Get proper training from a certified motorcycle safety course
Wear a DOT-approved helmet and protective gear
Check the motorcycle before riding

Put your left foot down when stopped
Put the bike in neutral or keep it in gear as needed
Use turn signals before turning or changing lanes
Check mirrors and blind spots before moving
Lean with the motorcycle through turns
Maintain a safe following distance
Practice braking, turning, and low-speed control in a safe area
Obey traffic laws and ride defensively
