How To Dye Tie Dye Shirts?

Choose a 100% cotton shirt or other natural-fiber shirt

Wash the shirt first to remove any finishes

Gather tie-dye supplies: dye, gloves, rubber bands, squeeze bottles, plastic wrap, and a protected work surface

Dampen the shirt slightly before dyeing

Twist, fold, or scrunch the shirt into the desired pattern

Secure the folds tightly with rubber bands

Mix the dye according to the package directions

Apply dye to each section of the shirt

Flip the shirt and dye the other side if needed

Wrap the shirt in plastic wrap or place it in a sealed bag

Let the dye set for the recommended time

Rinse the shirt under cold water until the water runs mostly clear

Remove the rubber bands

Wash the shirt separately in cold water

Dry the shirt according to the fabric instructions
