Choose a ripe pomegranate
Cut it in half crosswise
Hold one half over a bowl
Score the inside membranes lightly with your fingers or a knife
Gently pry out the arils (seeds) with your fingers
Remove any leftover membrane pieces and seeds that are loose
Eat the arils directly
Drink or use the arils in smoothies, salads, yogurt, or oatmeal
Store leftover arils in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 3–5 days
Freeze arils in a sealed bag or container up to 6–12 months
