Use Outlook Message Encryption (S/MIME) if your organization has it configured
Compose a new email in Outlook
Click the Options tab
Select Encrypt (or Encrypt with S/MIME)
If prompted, choose the correct certificate/recipient encryption option
Send the email
Use Office 365 / Microsoft 365 Message Encryption (if available)
Compose a new email in Outlook
Click the Options tab
Select Encrypt
Choose the encryption option provided (e.g., Encrypt-Only or Do Not Forward, if shown)
Send the email
Encrypt a specific attachment (if your setup supports it)
Attach the file to the email
Use the attachment encryption option available in your Outlook environment (if present)
Send the email
Verify encryption status before sending
Confirm the encryption indicator/label appears in the message window (e.g., “Encrypted”)
Ensure any required prompts or certificate selections are completed
If you don’t see Encrypt options
Ask your admin to enable message encryption in your tenant
Check whether your Outlook client is compatible with your organization’s encryption method
Confirm you have the required certificates/permissions for S/MIME or Microsoft 365 encryption
