Locate the anal glands at about 4 o’clock and 8 o’clock around the anus
Place a paper towel over the area
Apply gentle, steady pressure inward and upward
Express only until the glands empty
Stop if the dog shows pain, swelling, bleeding, or strong resistance
Clean the area thoroughly
Wash your hands and sanitize surfaces
Monitor the dog for scooting, licking, or signs of discomfort
Seek veterinary help if the glands are impacted or infected
