How To Find The Standard Deviation?

Find the mean of the data set

Subtract the mean from each value

Square each result

Find the average of the squared results

Take the square root of that average

Use the population formula if the data set includes every value

Use the sample formula if the data set is only a sample

Population standard deviation = square root of the sum of squared differences divided by N

Sample standard deviation = square root of the sum of squared differences divided by n – 1
