Rest the shoulder and avoid painful activities
Apply ice for 15 to 20 minutes at a time, several times a day for the first 48 hours
Use heat after the first 48 hours if stiffness remains
Take over-the-counter pain relievers if safe for you
Keep gentle shoulder movement to avoid stiffness
Try light stretching only if it does not increase pain
Support the arm with a sling only if needed and for short periods
Maintain good posture
Avoid lifting, pushing, or overhead reaching
See a doctor if pain is severe, swelling is significant, or movement is limited
Get urgent care if there is deformity, numbness, weakness, chest pain, or trouble breathing
Follow physical therapy or rehabilitation exercises if prescribed
