Rest your jaw and keep your mouth relaxed

Try gentle jaw opening and closing only if it does not increase pain
Massage the jaw muscles lightly
Eat only soft foods and avoid chewing gum
Avoid wide yawning, singing, or hard chewing
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if you can safely use it
If the jaw is stuck open or closed, seek urgent medical care
If you have trouble breathing, swallowing, or severe swelling, call emergency services immediately
If it keeps happening, see a dentist or doctor as soon as possible
