Locate all loose or raised nail pops
Set the nail heads slightly below the surface with a nail set
Remove any loose drywall or plaster around the pop
Drive a new screw or nail into the framing near the pop
Remove the popped nail if it is loose enough
Fill the hole and low area with joint compound or spackle
Apply a second coat after the first coat dries
Sand the repaired area smooth
Prime the patch
Paint to match the surrounding surface
