Back up any important data on the SSD
Connect the SSD to your computer
Open Disk Management on Windows or Disk Utility on Mac
Select the SSD
Delete existing partitions if needed
Create a new partition or volume
Choose a file system format such as NTFS, exFAT, APFS, or Mac OS Extended
Set a volume name if prompted
Confirm the format or erase action
Wait for the formatting process to complete
Safely eject the SSD when finished
