Remove and clean air fresheners, if present, before applying new odor control
Check for moisture and leaks; dry wet areas immediately
Replace or clean the cabin air filter if odors linger
Run the HVAC on fresh air for a few minutes, then switch between modes to clear lingering smells
Use an odor absorber (baking soda or activated charcoal) in the cabin for several hours to overnight
Place an odor absorber in the footwell and under seats if safe to do so
Use a fabric-safe deodorizer spray on carpets/upholstery after spot testing
Use an interior-safe enzyme cleaner for organic odors (food, spills, pet accidents)
Clean pet areas with an enzyme cleaner if applicable
Disinfect high-touch areas (steering wheel, shifter, door handles) with interior-safe disinfectant wipes
Air out the car by opening doors and running fans for 20–30 minutes
Keep windows cracked slightly when parked (if weather allows) to reduce trapped odors
Avoid leaving food, wet items, and damp towels in the cabin
Use a cabin air filter with activated carbon if available
Maintain regular vacuuming and quick spill cleanup to prevent odor buildup
