Choose a hosting method: local computer, paid hosting, or a VPS/dedicated server
Download the Minecraft server software from the official Minecraft website
Install Java if required by the server version
Create a new folder for the server files
Place the server .jar file into the folder
Run the server once to generate the files
Open and accept the EULA in the eula.txt file
Run the server again to start it
Configure server settings in server.properties
Open the required port on your router if hosting from home
Share your public IP address or domain with players
Keep the server updated and backed up
