Move out of direct sun and avoid further UV exposure

Use plain petroleum jelly or a fragrance-free lip balm to keep lips moist
Reapply a gentle moisturizer often, especially after eating or drinking
Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated
Avoid picking, peeling, or rubbing the lips
Avoid spicy, salty, acidic, or very hot foods and drinks
Avoid lip products with menthol, camphor, fragrance, or alcohol
Use an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed and if safe for you
Protect lips from sun with an SPF lip balm once they are no longer too irritated
Seek medical care if there is severe swelling, blistering, fever, pus, or worsening pain
