Move out of direct sun immediately
Apply a cool, damp compress to the lips for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Drink plenty of water
Use a plain petroleum jelly or fragrance-free lip balm to keep lips moist
Reapply a gentle, SPF lip balm once the lips are no longer too irritated
Avoid licking, peeling, or picking at the lips
Avoid spicy, salty, acidic, or very hot foods and drinks
Avoid products with menthol, camphor, fragrance, or alcohol
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed and if safe for you
Seek medical care if swelling is severe, blisters develop, pain is intense, or symptoms worsen
