Scrape off excess wet paint with a dull knife or spoon.
Blot wet paint with a clean white cloth or paper towel; avoid rubbing.
Rinse the back of the stain with cold water to push paint out of the fabric.
Check the paint type: water-based or acrylic (water-based acrylic usually responds to water; set acrylic needs stronger steps).
For water-based acrylic: soak the stained area in cold water for 15–30 minutes, then wash as usual with detergent.
For water-based acrylic (stubborn): apply a small amount of liquid dish soap to the stain, gently work it in, then wash.
For dried acrylic: soak the stain in warm water for 30–60 minutes to soften.
For dried acrylic: gently scrape again after soaking.
Apply rubbing alcohol (or isopropyl alcohol) to a clean cloth and dab from the outside of the stain toward the center; change cloths as needed.
Rinse with cold water, then wash with heavy-duty detergent.
If paint remains: repeat alcohol dabbing and washing until the stain lifts.
For remaining residue: use a small amount of acetone-based nail polish remover on a hidden seam/test area; dab, then rinse and wash.
Do not use acetone on acetate, triacetate, or modacrylic fabrics.
For delicate or wool/silk: use rubbing alcohol sparingly, test first, then blot and wash with a gentle detergent.
After treatment, air-dry the garment; do not use heat until the stain is fully gone.
If any stain persists after washing: repeat the appropriate soak/alcohol/acetone steps; avoid drying in between.
