Complete the classroom portion or the required six hours of driver education
Obtain a DE-964 certificate or equivalent proof of course completion
Gather required documents
Proof of identity
Proof of Social Security number
Proof of Texas residency
Proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful presence
Proof of school enrollment or completion of a homeschool form if under 18
Visit a Texas DPS office
Submit the application for a learner license
Pass the vision exam
Pass the knowledge exam
Pay the required fee
Have a parent or legal guardian sign the application if under 18
Receive the learner license after approval
Hold the learner license while practicing driving with a licensed adult in the front passenger seat
