Blot excess grease with a clean paper towel or cloth; avoid rubbing
Sprinkle baking soda, cornstarch, or talc on the stain; let sit 30–60 minutes; brush off
Apply dish soap directly to the stain (liquid, not cream); gently work into fabric with fingers or a soft brush for 5–10 minutes
Let sit 10–15 minutes
Launder in the hottest water safe for the fabric per care label
Check the stain before drying; air-dry if any stain remains
If stain persists, pre-treat with a laundry degreaser or stain remover; follow product directions
Re-launder and re-check before drying
For delicate or dry-clean-only fabrics: blot, then use a dry-cleaning solvent or take to a professional cleaner and point out the grease stain
Do not use heat (tumble dryer, hot iron) until the stain is fully gone
For heavy or older grease: repeat the baking soda/cornstarch step and dish-soap pre-treatment, then launder again
For synthetic fabrics: use dish soap pre-treatment and wash in warm/hot as allowed by the care label
