Be born to at least one Japanese parent
Be born in Japan to stateless parents or unknown parents
Be born in Japan and not acquire any other nationality at birth in certain cases
Apply for naturalization if you are a foreign national
Meet the legal residence requirement for naturalization
Show good conduct
Be able to support yourself financially or have stable means of living
Be willing to renounce other nationality if required
Submit the required documents to the Legal Affairs Bureau
Pass the review and approval process by the Ministry of Justice
Complete the nationality registration or naturalization procedure after approval
