Use the IRS “Get an IP PIN” tool if you can verify your identity online
If you cannot verify online, complete IRS Form 15227 by phone or mail if eligible
If you cannot use Form 15227, make an appointment at an IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center with photo ID
If you are already enrolled, retrieve your IP PIN from your IRS Online Account
Check IRS notices or letters for IP PIN instructions if the IRS mailed one to you
If you are a victim of identity theft, follow the IRS identity theft process to get an IP PIN
Use the current-year IP PIN when filing your federal tax return
Request a new IP PIN each year if you are enrolled in the IP PIN program
