Determine whether you need a U.S. passport book, passport card, or both
Complete Form DS-11 if applying for the first time, under age 16, or replacing a lost or stolen passport
Gather proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a certified birth certificate or naturalization certificate
Gather a valid government-issued photo ID
Bring a photocopy of the front and back of your ID
Provide one passport photo that meets U.S. passport requirements
Pay the required passport fees
Apply in person at a passport acceptance facility in Texas, such as a post office, county clerk office, or library
Make an appointment if the acceptance facility requires one
Submit your application, documents, photo, and payment at the acceptance facility
If required, swear to the application in front of the acceptance agent
Track your application status after submission
Wait for your passport to be mailed to you
Use Form DS-82 by mail if you are eligible to renew an existing passport
Use Form DS-5504 if you need to correct certain passport errors or replace a limited-validity passport
Visit an expedited service if you need faster processing
