Blot the spill immediately with a clean white cloth or paper towel
Do not rub the stain
Sprinkle salt or baking soda over the wet wine to absorb it
Let it sit for several minutes
Vacuum or brush away the salt or baking soda
Mix one tablespoon of dish soap with two cups of cold water
Dab the stain with the solution using a clean cloth
Blot with a dry cloth to lift the wine
Repeat the soap solution and blotting as needed
Mix equal parts white vinegar and water if the stain remains
Dab the area with the vinegar solution
Blot again with a dry cloth
Rinse the spot with a small amount of cold water
Blot until the carpet is as dry as possible
Apply hydrogen peroxide and dish soap only on light-colored carpets if needed
Test any cleaning solution on a hidden area first
Let the carpet air dry completely
Vacuum the area after it dries to restore the texture
