Blot up as much urine as possible with clean paper towels or a cloth
Press firmly and repeat with dry towels until the area is mostly dry
Rinse the spot with cool water
Blot again to remove the water
Apply an enzymatic pet urine cleaner according to the label
Let the cleaner sit for the recommended time
Blot the area dry
Repeat the cleaner if needed
Sprinkle baking soda over the area after it is damp but not soaked
Let the baking soda sit until dry
Vacuum up the baking soda
For lingering odor, repeat with an enzymatic cleaner
Avoid using steam or heat on the stain
Avoid ammonia-based cleaners
Test any cleaner on a hidden area first
