Stop the activity and rest
Gently stretch the cramped foot and toes
Pull your toes upward toward your shin
Massage the cramped area
Stand and put weight on the foot if possible
Walk slowly to help the muscle relax
Apply heat with a warm towel or heating pad
Use ice if the area feels sore afterward
Drink water
Drink an electrolyte beverage if you may be dehydrated
Remove tight shoes or socks
Flex and relax the foot several times
Soak the foot in warm water
Prevent future cramps by staying hydrated
Stretch your feet and calves before bed
Wear supportive shoes
See a doctor if cramps happen often or are severe
