Use an anti-dandruff shampoo with ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, zinc pyrithione, or salicylic acid
Wet your scalp thoroughly before applying shampoo
Massage the shampoo into your scalp, not just your hair
Leave the shampoo on for 3 to 5 minutes
Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water
Repeat the wash once if needed
Avoid using heavy oils or styling products before washing
Use a conditioner only on the hair lengths, not the scalp
Comb out loose flakes after washing
Wash again with the same anti-dandruff shampoo in a few days if needed
