Use a snow shovel to remove loose snow first
Apply ice melt or rock salt evenly over the ice
Use calcium chloride for faster melting in very cold temperatures
Spread sand or kitty litter for traction if melting is not immediate
Break up thick ice with an ice scraper or metal shovel edge
Pour warm water only if you can clear and dry the area immediately
Reapply deicer as needed until the ice loosens
Sweep away slush and melted ice to prevent refreezing
Use a driveway mat or cover to reduce future ice buildup
Keep gutters and drainage clear to limit water runoff onto the driveway
