Apply a cold compress or ice wrapped in cloth for 10–15 minutes, repeat every 1–2 hours for the first 24 hours
After 24 hours, apply a warm compress or heating pad for 10–15 minutes, 3–4 times daily
Gently massage the area for 1–2 minutes at a time, 2–3 times daily
Use arnica gel or cream (follow label directions)
Use vitamin K cream or gel (follow label directions)
Apply a concealer or color-correcting makeup:
Green corrector for red/pink marks
Yellow corrector for purple/blue marks
Elevate the area (if possible) to reduce swelling
Avoid alcohol and aspirin during the first 24 hours (they can worsen bruising)
Avoid heavy pressure, aggressive rubbing, or intense exercise on the bruise for the first 24 hours
If it’s very large, very painful, or doesn’t improve after several days, see a clinician
