Wear gloves, an N95 mask, and eye protection
Open windows and improve ventilation
Remove the source of moisture
Vacuum the area with a HEPA vacuum
Sprinkle baking soda or a mold-safe absorbent on the carpet
Scrub the affected area with a carpet-safe mold cleaner
Blot up excess moisture with clean towels
Use a wet/dry vacuum to extract remaining liquid
Dry the carpet completely with fans and a dehumidifier
Lift the carpet if possible to dry the padding underneath
Discard the carpet and padding if mold is extensive or deeply embedded
Clean and disinfect the subfloor before reinstalling carpet
Wash or replace any contaminated rugs, furniture, or nearby items
Monitor the area for recurring moisture or mold growth
