Blot the area dry after treatment

Sprinkle baking soda over the dry area
Let the baking soda sit for several hours or overnight
Vacuum up the baking soda thoroughly
Use a wet-dry vacuum if available to extract deeper moisture
Clean the carpet padding if the urine soaked through
Replace the padding if the odor persists
Avoid using ammonia-based cleaners
Avoid steam cleaning before the urine is fully removed
Test any cleaner on a hidden carpet area first
Keep pets away from the area until it is completely dry
Repeat treatment for old or set-in stains as needed
