Put on disposable gloves
Pick up the solid waste with paper towels or a plastic bag
Remove any remaining chunks with a spoon or dull knife
Blot the area with paper towels to absorb moisture
Mix a small amount of mild dish soap with warm water
Dampen a clean cloth with the solution
Blot the stain from the outside inward
Repeat with clean cloths until the stain lifts
Rinse the area by blotting with plain water
Blot dry with clean towels
Sprinkle baking soda over the area
Let the baking soda sit until dry
Vacuum the baking soda thoroughly
Use an enzymatic pet cleaner if odor remains
Repeat cleaning if needed
Avoid scrubbing the carpet
Test any cleaner on a hidden area first
