Put on disposable gloves
Pick up the solid waste with paper towels or a plastic bag
Dispose of the waste in a sealed trash bag
Blot the area with paper towels to remove moisture

Mix a small amount of dish soap with warm water
Blot the stain with the soapy solution using a clean cloth
Blot with plain water to rinse
Apply white vinegar diluted with water if odor remains

Let the baking soda sit for several hours
Vacuum the baking soda thoroughly
Use an enzymatic pet cleaner if the stain or smell persists
Repeat as needed until the area is clean
Avoid rubbing the carpet
