Wash your face gently with a mild cleanser
Apply a cold compress for 5–10 minutes, then repeat once or twice
Dab a small amount of benzoyl peroxide (2.5%–5%) directly on the pimple
If skin is sensitive, use salicylic acid (0.5%–2%) instead, dabbed only on the spot
Leave the rest of your skin undisturbed; avoid picking or squeezing
Use a hydrocolloid pimple patch over the spot if available
Spot-treat with a thin layer of hydrocolloid patch or benzoyl peroxide at night if you don’t use a patch
Keep makeup and heavy skincare off the area until it calms
Use a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer on surrounding skin
Sleep with the area clean and dry; avoid touching your face
If the pimple is very inflamed, consider an OTC pimple-specific spot treatment with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid
For severe pain/swelling or cystic acne, seek urgent care or a clinician for appropriate treatment
