Wash the skin immediately with lukewarm water and soap
Rinse thoroughly to remove any remaining urushiol oil
Wash clothing, shoes, gloves, and tools that may have touched the plant
Avoid scratching the rash
Apply cool compresses to the affected area
Use calamine lotion or colloidal oatmeal products
Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream as directed on the label
Take an oral antihistamine for itching if needed
Keep the skin clean and dry
Trim fingernails to reduce skin damage from scratching
Seek medical care if the rash is severe, widespread, on the face or genitals, or if there is trouble breathing or swelling
