Wash the skin with soap and cool water as soon as possible
Wash all clothes, shoes, tools, and pet fur that may have urushiol on them
Apply cool compresses for 15 to 20 minutes at a time
Use calamine lotion or colloidal oatmeal to soothe itching
Apply 1% hydrocortisone cream to the rash as directed on the label
Take an oral antihistamine for itching if appropriate
Take a cool bath with colloidal oatmeal or baking soda
Keep the rash clean and dry
Avoid scratching
Trim nails short to reduce skin damage and infection risk
Use loose, breathable clothing
Seek medical care if the rash is severe, widespread, on the face or genitals, or if there is swelling, pus, fever, or trouble breathing
