Wear gloves, long sleeves, and eye protection
Pull young plants by hand when soil is moist
Remove the entire taproot
Dig out mature plants with a shovel or spade
Remove all root fragments
Bag and dispose of roots, stems, berries, and leaves in the trash
Do not compost pokeweed
Cut plants back before they set berries
Repeatedly cut or mow regrowth during the season
Apply a systemic herbicide to actively growing plants if needed
Follow all label directions exactly when using herbicides
Recheck the area regularly and remove new seedlings promptly
