Water the rose bush deeply a day before moving it
Choose a cool, cloudy day for transplanting if possible
Prune back long canes and remove dead or damaged growth
Dig a wide circle around the plant to keep as many roots intact as possible
Lift the rose carefully with a root ball of soil attached
Prepare the new planting hole before moving the rose
Make the hole wide and deep enough for the roots to spread
Mix compost into the soil if needed
Place the rose in the new hole at the same depth it was growing before
Spread the roots gently in the hole
Backfill with soil and firm it lightly around the roots
Water thoroughly after planting
Add mulch around the base without touching the stems
Keep the soil evenly moist for several weeks
Protect the rose from strong sun and wind until it is established
Avoid fertilizing immediately after transplanting
Monitor for wilting and new growth over the following weeks
