How to Transfer Roses?

Water the rose bush deeply a day before moving it

Choose a cool, cloudy day for transplanting if possible

Prune back long canes and remove dead or damaged growth

Dig a wide circle around the plant to keep as many roots intact as possible

Lift the rose carefully with a root ball of soil attached

Prepare the new planting hole before moving the rose

Make the hole wide and deep enough for the roots to spread

Mix compost into the soil if needed

Place the rose in the new hole at the same depth it was growing before

Spread the roots gently in the hole

Backfill with soil and firm it lightly around the roots

Water thoroughly after planting

Add mulch around the base without touching the stems

Keep the soil evenly moist for several weeks

Protect the rose from strong sun and wind until it is established

Avoid fertilizing immediately after transplanting

Monitor for wilting and new growth over the following weeks
