Wash the bite with soap and water
Apply a cold compress for 10 to 15 minutes at a time
Elevate the affected area if possible
Take an over-the-counter pain reliever if needed
Use an antihistamine for itching if appropriate
Apply a hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion for itching
Avoid scratching the bite
Keep the area clean and dry
Watch for signs of infection
Seek medical care if redness, swelling, pain, or warmth worsens
Seek urgent care if you have trouble breathing, chest pain, dizziness, or facial swelling
Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect a venomous spider bite
