Brush your teeth and tongue gently 2–3 times daily
Use a tongue scraper once daily (after brushing)
Floss daily to reduce overall mouth bacteria
Stay hydrated and drink water regularly
Rinse with warm salt water (½ teaspoon salt in a cup of warm water) 1–2 times daily
Use an alcohol-free mouthwash daily
Avoid smoking or vaping
Limit alcohol and sugary drinks
Reduce caffeine if it worsens symptoms
Manage dry mouth (sugar-free gum/lozenges, saliva substitutes if needed)
Check and clean dentures/retainers daily; remove them at night
Review medications with a clinician if you have dry mouth (e.g., antihistamines, antidepressants)
If thick, wipeable white patches and soreness are present, consider possible oral thrush and seek medical/dental treatment for antifungal therapy
If the coating persists despite good oral hygiene for more than 2 weeks, schedule a dental or medical evaluation
Seek urgent care if you have trouble swallowing, severe pain, bleeding, fever, spreading sores, or a rapidly worsening tongue appearance
