Mix equal parts white vinegar and water in a spray bottle
Lightly spray the area without soaking the carpet
Blot with a clean towel
Sprinkle baking soda again if the smell remains
Use an enzymatic carpet cleaner according to the label instructions
Blot and let the carpet dry completely
Open windows or use fans to speed drying
Repeat the process if needed
If the odor persists, have the carpet professionally cleaned
