How To Give Intramuscular Injection?

Wash hands thoroughly

Check the medication label, dose, expiration date, and patient identity

Gather supplies: medication, syringe, needle, alcohol swabs, gloves, gauze, and sharps container

Select the correct injection site: deltoid, vastus lateralis, or ventrogluteal

Position the patient comfortably and expose the site

Put on gloves

Clean the skin with an alcohol swab and let it dry

Draw up the medication into the syringe

Remove air bubbles from the syringe

Hold the skin taut or use the appropriate technique for the site

Insert the needle at a 90-degree angle into the muscle

Aspirate only if required by local protocol

Inject the medication slowly and steadily

Withdraw the needle smoothly

Apply gentle pressure with gauze if needed

Dispose of the needle and syringe immediately in a sharps container

Remove gloves and wash hands

Monitor the patient for any immediate reaction

Document the medication, dose, site, time, and response
