Eat or remove the cherry flesh from the pit
Rinse the pit thoroughly
Let the pit dry for a day or two
Crack the pit carefully if needed, without damaging the seed inside
Place the seed in a damp paper towel
Seal the towel in a plastic bag
Refrigerate the bag for 10 to 12 weeks
Check periodically to keep the towel slightly moist
Remove the seed after cold stratification
Plant the seed in a pot with well-draining soil
Cover the seed with about 1 inch of soil
Water lightly
Place the pot in a sunny location
Keep the soil moist but not soggy
Wait for germination
Transplant the seedling outdoors after it is strong enough
Choose a location with full sun and well-draining soil
Space the tree properly from other plants and structures
Water regularly during the first growing season
Protect the young tree from pests and harsh weather
