Remove the avocado pit from the fruit
Rinse the pit clean
Identify the top and bottom of the pit
Insert three or four toothpicks into the middle of the pit
Suspend the pit over a glass of water with the bottom half submerged
Place the glass in a warm spot with indirect sunlight
Change the water every few days
Wait for the pit to split and roots to grow
Wait for a stem and leaves to emerge
Keep the roots submerged as they grow
Transplant the seedling into a pot with well-draining soil when roots are strong and the stem has leaves
Water the soil regularly but avoid overwatering
Place the potted avocado in bright indirect light
Move it to a larger pot as it grows
Protect it from cold temperatures
Be patient, since fruiting can take many years or may not happen indoors
