Measure the door opening
Check that the existing door frame is plumb and square
Choose the correct storm door size and handing
Unpack the storm door and verify all parts are included
Assemble the frame according to the manufacturer’s instructions
Hold the frame in the opening and check the fit
Mark the hinge-side mounting holes
Drill pilot holes if required
Attach the hinge-side frame to the door jamb
Recheck the frame for level and square
Mark and install the latch-side frame
Hang the storm door on the hinges
Test the door swing and adjust alignment
Install the handle and latch hardware
Install the door closer
Add the sweep, weatherstripping, and any trim pieces
Test the door for proper closing and locking
Tighten all screws after final adjustments
