Place eggs in a single layer in a saucepan
Add cold water until eggs are covered by about 1 inch
Bring water to a full boil over medium-high heat
Once boiling, turn off the heat and cover the pan
Let eggs sit in the hot water for 9 to 12 minutes
Transfer eggs immediately to an ice bath
Chill eggs in ice water for 5 to 10 minutes
Peel eggs under cool running water if desired
Store peeled or unpeeled eggs in the refrigerator
