Wait until the tops fall over and begin to yellow or dry
Stop watering when most tops have fallen
Loosen the soil around the bulbs with a garden fork or spade
Pull the onions gently from the ground by the tops
Shake off loose soil
Lay the onions in a single layer to dry
Cure them in a warm, dry, well-ventilated place
Keep them out of direct rain and moisture
Trim the roots after curing
Cut the tops after they are fully dry
Store only firm, unblemished bulbs
Keep harvested onions in a cool, dry, dark place
