Rinse your mouth gently with warm salt water several times a day
Keep the area clean by brushing your teeth carefully

Avoid alcohol and tobacco
Do not poke, chew, or irritate the cut
Use over-the-counter pain relief if needed and if safe for you
Apply a cold compress or suck on ice chips to reduce swelling
Watch for signs of infection, heavy bleeding, or worsening pain
Seek medical care if the cut is deep, large, keeps bleeding, or does not improve within a few days
