Soak feet in warm water for 10 to 15 minutes
Gently scrub thick, dry skin with a pumice stone or foot file
Pat feet completely dry, especially between the toes
Apply a thick moisturizer or petroleum jelly immediately after drying
Use a urea, lactic acid, or salicylic acid foot cream for very dry skin
Wear cotton socks after moisturizing to lock in moisture
Reapply moisturizer before bed every night
Avoid hot showers and harsh soaps
Do not pick or cut cracked skin
Keep feet protected with closed-toe shoes or cushioned sandals
Drink enough water throughout the day
Use a humidifier if indoor air is dry
Treat any athlete’s foot or fungal infection if present
See a doctor if cracks are deep, bleeding, painful, or infected
See a doctor if you have diabetes, poor circulation, or nerve problems
