Wash your hands
Remove the suppository from its packaging
If needed, moisten the tip with a little water or use a water-based lubricant
Lie on your side with the upper knee bent, or stand with one foot raised
Gently separate the buttocks
Insert the suppository pointed end first into the rectum
Push it in past the anal sphincter, about 1 inch in adults or as directed
Stay lying down for a few minutes if possible
Wash your hands again
Avoid passing stool for as long as possible after insertion
