How To Install A GFCI Outlet?

Turn off power at the circuit breaker

Verify the power is off with a voltage tester

Remove the existing outlet cover plate

Unscrew and pull the outlet out of the electrical box

Note the wire connections before disconnecting them

Disconnect the wires from the old outlet

Identify the line wires and load wires on the GFCI outlet

Connect the incoming power wires to the LINE terminals

Connect any outgoing protected wires to the LOAD terminals if needed

Connect the ground wire to the green ground screw

Tighten all terminal screws securely

Fold the wires neatly into the box

Mount the GFCI outlet into the electrical box

Attach the cover plate

Turn the power back on at the breaker

Press the TEST button on the GFCI outlet

Press the RESET button on the GFCI outlet

Confirm the outlet is working properly
