Measure the door opening
Check that the existing door frame is plumb and square
Choose a storm door size and handing
Gather tools and hardware
Unpack the storm door and verify all parts
Assemble the frame if required
Position the hinge side of the door frame against the opening
Mark the hinge mounting holes
Pre-drill pilot holes if needed
Attach the hinge side of the storm door frame
Check the frame for level and plumb
Secure the latch side of the frame
Install the door closer(s)
Install the handle and lockset
Hang the storm door on the hinges
Test the door swing and closing action
Adjust the closer tension and latch alignment
Install any trim, sweep, or weatherstripping
Seal gaps with caulk if needed
Tighten all screws and recheck operation
