How to Install Deck Flashing on Existing Deck?

Remove any loose boards or trim along the deck edge

Clean the ledger area and deck surface thoroughly

Inspect the ledger board, rim joist, and siding for rot or damage

Repair any damaged wood before installing flashing

Measure the length of the deck ledger

Cut the flashing to size

Use corrosion-resistant metal flashing or approved deck flashing tape

Slide the flashing behind the siding if possible

Install flashing over the top of the ledger board

Overlap flashing pieces by the recommended amount

Seal seams and joints with compatible exterior sealant or flashing tape

Fasten flashing with corrosion-resistant nails or screws as required

Keep fasteners placed so they do not create water entry points

Install a drip edge if needed

Reinstall any removed trim or siding components

Check that the flashing directs water away from the ledger
